College Football and the Underdogs
It is that time of year again when I actually care about sports - Football is about the only sport I enjoy (soccer being another). So once again I'm playing the Silly Underdog Contest put on by the local sportstalk radio station. The object is to try and pick three underdogs each week that you think will win outright. This year, instead of posting my picks in seperate posts, I'm going to post my picks as comments to this post. If you're interested in following along, I will put a link to this post in my favorite posts on the left. Your welcome to play along or just riducule my silly picks.
p.s. Go Vols!

Week One:
I'm going with three home underdogs this week.
Wisconsin 9.5 BOWLING GREEN Army 5.5 ARKANSAS STATE tcu 7 BAYLOR
Thanks for the reminder.
Love the Baylor pick!
Here are mine:
WASHINGTON 18.5 San Jose State
Notre Dame 7 GEORGIA TECH
MIAMI 4 Florida State
Notice I did not pick my own Bears...Baylor has installed a new offense patterned after Texas Tech's high flying passing offense. While that offense may eventually produce some spectacular results, and everyone here in Waco is very excited to see how it goes...I have my doubts that they will have it working well right off the bat. Plus, the defense that last year was the reason why Baylor won 5 games lost several of the best players to graduation. So while everyone here thinks that this is finally the year Baylor goes bowling, I think we take a step backward before going forward. I hope I'm wrong!
allright - 4 points! I'm on the board!
Army didn't disappoint me last week for 5.5 pts. - this week i'm going with State schools.
Stanford 10.5 SAN JOSE STATE
Indiana 3.5 BALL STATE
TEXAS 2.5 Ohio State
p.s. How 'bout those Tennessee Volunteers?!?!?!
Did your mom tell you that I tried calling during the UT game Saturday night? We attempted to eat at Chuey's, but there was a 2 hour wait. Needless to say, we didn't eat there. Maybe next time we're in Austin...
Week 3
CONNECTICUT 6 Wake Forest
LOUISVILLE 4.5 Miami
STANFORD 3 Navy
Picking against Stanford for the second consecutive week. They ought to play Duke or Vandy.
GO VOLS!
RUTGERS 17 Ohio
Boise St. 8.5 WYOMING
Arkansas 6 VANDERBILT
I can't believe I overlooked Miami over Louisville. I think there is no way the Cardinals in that one.
I did give Wake Forest some serious consideration. But if they only beat Duke by 1 point, I think Connecticut will be tough for them to overcome, especially on the road.
But what do I know - I only have 4 points after 2 weeks. :(
Wake Forest did indeed beat Connecticut. I'm an idiot.
Thanks for the compliment...but look again. I lost all 3 of those games this week. :(
Week 4 picks:
Boston College 7 N.C. STATE ARKANSAS 2.5 Alabama
UAB 10 Mississippi State
Week 4:
ARKANSAS 2.5 Alabama
BAYLOR 10.5 Army
UAB 10 Mississippi State
This is probably why I only have 4 points...my picks are so bad.
And picking against Baylor just stinks. If anyone finds out about this, I may receive unending grief.
So, I noticed you did not pick Middle Tennessee against Oklahoma? Why not? ;)
CONNECTICUT 3 Navy
UTAH 3.5 Boise State
FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL 8 Arkansas State
I'm staying with mid-majors this week along with two proven underdog winners in Navy and Ark. St.
I'm back in the game after my big week last week, but still gunning for the big points...
California 8.5 OREGON STATE
Northern Illinois 7 BALL STATE
VIRGINIA TECH 9 Georgia Tech
Well check you out...top 30. Congrats on your esteemed ranking!
Week 6:
I'm staying within the Big 12 and picking teams on the road.
TEXAS 5.5 Oklahoma
COLORADO 5 Baylor
TEXAS TECH 4 Missouri
My picks this week:
UCLA 11.5 Arizona
TEXAS TECH 4 Missouri
CALIFORNIA 5.5 Oregon
well how about that? Baylor has now won 3 consecutive Big 12 games (extending back to last season) for the first time in history.
Week 7
A very difficult slate of underdogs to pick from this week. I'm going with these.
N.C. STATE 4 Wake Forest
CONNECTICUT 6 Army
TROY STATE 9 Louisiana - Monroe
N.C. STATE 4 Wake Forest
GEORGIA 13.5 Vanderbilt
MEMPHIS 12.5 Arkansas State
Check it out - we're both in the Top 100 now!
Week 8
PITTSBURGH 6.5 Rutgers
CLEMSON 7 Georgia Tech
FLORIDA STATE 4.5 Boston College
I going with East Coast Dogs this week (and I was tempted to pick Duke).
I liked all 3 of your picks. I wish I would have had 6 picks this week, there were some other good ones I didn't go with.
PITTSBURGH 6.5 Rutgers
Michigan State 6.5 NORTHWESTERN
HOUSTON 6 utep
I picked a team that gave up a 35 point lead. Unbelievable.
My picks this week, made in time for me to travel to West Tennessee this weekend...
KANSAS STATE 5.5 Iowa State
TULANE 6 Army
TROY STATE 9 North Texas
Week 9:
I'm cheering for our armed forces this week.
Notre Dame 14 NAVY
byu 8 AIR FORCE
TULANE 6 Army
Here come the Revelation jokes...
MINNESOTA 6 Indiana
Georgia Tech 6 N.C. STATE
NEBRASKA 6 Missouri
Week 10:
Boston College 3.5 WAKE FOREST
Georgia 6.5 KENTUCKY
NEBRASKA 6 Missouri
no jokes this week after my miserable performance in week 9.
GO VOLS!
Week 11:
FLORIDA STATE 7.5 Wake Forest
ARKANSAS 5.5 Tennessee
Middle Tennessee State 5 ARKANSAS STATE
I've fallen so far behind now that I may be reduced to spectator. I will just have to cheer you on to victory, while trying to figure out how to improve for next year.
Wake Forest is probably a safer pick than Air Force...but what the heck. Go Falcons!
ARKANSAS 5.5 Tennessee
Notre Dame 11.5 AIR FORCE
Middle Tennessee State 5 ARKANSAS STATE
Week 12:
OHIO STATE 6.5 Michigan
BOSTON COLLEGE 7.5 Maryland
TROY STATE 7.5 Arkansas State
It's showdown weekend. Time for the Vols to start a new streak vs. Vandy.
I haven't had a win since week 8. Let's hope Vandy has better luck this week than I have in the past 2 or 3 weeks...
Rutgers 7 CINCINNATI
OHIO STATE 6.5 Michigan
WASHINGTON STATE 8 Washington
Week 13:
Last week of the regular season. Not much to pick from.
GEORGIA 2 Georgia Tech
UTEP 10.5 Memphis
LOUISIANA - LAFAYETTE 5 Arkansas State
WEST VIRGINIA 20.5 South Florida
TENNESSEE 19.5 Kentucky
Louisville 11 PITTSBURGH
Last week of Silly Underdog picks, right? I'm currently #100, so I suppose my goal is to stay in the top 100.
NEW MEXICO STATE 10 Louisiana Tech
usc (Southern California) 13.5 UCLA
HAWAII 7.5 Oregon State
Week 14:
WEST VIRGINIA 8 Rutgers
Georgia Tech 2.5 Wake Forest
Oklahoma 4 Nebraska
Congrats to us both for finishing in the top 100!
